The Story
We design life made for thriving
Moms are like
flamingos
It’s a common myth that flamingos are flightless. The truth is they are actually strong flyers. Just like these magnificent birds, the potential of mothers is often undervalued in our society. Our generation was raised to work and be independent, rather than be homemakers like in the past. The problem is, we also make the home and care for the kids, in addition to working. It may seem like we aren’t good flyers but it’s only because we’re spread too thin.
When a flamingo has a baby, she loses her pink coloring while she nurses. Just like the flamingo, motherhood requires sacrifice, both physically and mentally.
After having children, women can be in conflict with their hearts and brains. The hearts telling them to be with their children while our brains have been wired for professional aspirations.
This is where a lot of us struggle. The answer is simple, society is not designed for us to thrive. It’s our responsibility to rewrite the story for both ourselves and future generations. By finding balance and reconciling the conflict between our hearts and brains, we can get our pink back just like the mother flamingo eventually does. Moms are incredible, please don’t ever think that you aren’t meant to fly, mama.
